Weston and Zachary have been hired on to work as Boy scout staff at Camp Cherry Valley located on Catalina Island. They leave on June 7th and will Return on August 17th, just in time for school to start up. I have been so soso busy trying to get things in order, we found out on Wednesday that they are going, and there are uniforms to buy, Patches to sew (actually I cheated and got this sticker paper you iron on!) suitcases to pack, employment packages to mail off and the list goes on! Zac Weston and I spent all of yesterday getting things prepared so that we could pack and have that out of our hair. Weston had to go to work, so we have spent hundreds of minutes on our cell phones trying to get things taken care of. I am his gopher (total role reversal!) Zac and I finished packing last night at 12:30 am...Yeah...., I started to pack some of Weston's things too, but he will have to finish the rest. He is working all the extra shifts he possibly can this week at his other job, so he probably won't be home, This will probably be a stressful week for him. I have been on a quest for hiking boots, and Heel strap sandals the will fit both boys, and are reasonable. I finally got both today, and am relieved to have that taken care of. Their first paychecks will defiantly go to me to pay off my credit card!
Now that Zac is packed, we can have a layed back week, and get a few projects taken care of at home, like planting my garden. ( it is late this year, but oh well!)
Here are some interesting facts about Camp Cherry Valley - Catalina Island is the Most popular Boy Scout Summer Camp in the Western United States
Located on legendary Santa Catalina Island, it is a ferry ride across the channel to a camp that dates to the 1920s. A picturesque cove with sandy beach, swimming area and unusually clear water is situated at the mouth of Cherry Valley. Camp Cherry Valley offers opportunities for many water sports including world-class snorkeling, SCUBA diving, canoeing, rowing, sailing and swimming. Because it is located on the leeward side of the island, the cove is calm making it a perfect place for lots of fun in the water. Hikes over mountainous terrain, war canoe races, touring an old silver mine, a sea lab with a touch tank so you can learn about local marine life is available. Camping in comfortable platform tents under a unique variety of cherry trees, a dining hall and more.
Reservations for Summer Camp are usually full two years in advance. Scout Troops come from all over the United States to spend a week by her crystal clear waters. The program has been refined for over 75 years balancing merit badge and rank advancement with seizing all that the unique aquatic location has to share. The facilities have, over the last several years, been brought into the 21st century offering a state-of-the-art marine science center, rifle range, handicraft lodge as well as the premiere waterfront. Rugged "E" is a physically and mentally challenging program (for ages 14 plus only) including kayaking, hiking, aquatic COPE events, overnight trips, day and night snorkeling trips and mountain biking.
