Dear Elder Marsh!

Weston probably had 25 or more people there to watch him open is call.  We went around the room and asked everyone where they thought Weston was going...Only 1 person got it right..that was James (in the green shirt, by kyle who is in the blue and white striped)

Michael is holding the phone so that Grandma Healey could hear.

Drum Roll Please!

Tim is holding my phone so that Zachary could hear and be a part of it.  He had his phone on speaker phone, so that all the staff at Camp Cherry Valley could hear.  That is where Weston worked last summer, and has lots of friends there.

Dear Elder Marsh, you are here by called to serve as a missionary of The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Your assigned to labor in the Mexico, Mexico City South Mission.....
report on October 13, 2010.

Weston is so excited! He waited until we got off work to open his call. The ironic thing is, James, his cousin, is going to the Mexico north mission, and will be there the same time as Weston, pretty neat!  He is the only person who guessed right!
This has been a moment that I have waited for, for a long time......I am so proud of my son, and for the desire he has to serve the Lord. I know that it will be stressful and yet rewarding. Good Luck Weston!

Summer Vacation 2010

This year for our family vacation, we wanted to do something that would leave a lasting memory for our family.  First of all it will be our last vacation before Weston goes on his mission, and then Michael will go and then Zac will go and we won't be all together again for a long time!  Second of all we wanted to go camping, mainly because Aubrie doesn't remember going (she was little when we used to go) and Third, we wanted to go somewhere that would involve the teens, and not be "kiddish"

We went to Mesa Verde National Park in Cortez Colorado and then drove down to Moab, Utah.  Then we went to Arches National Park, and Canyon Lands National Park, and Dead Horse Point State Park.  We wanted to go to the 4 corners so that we could be in 4 places at 1 time, but it was closed.  It was a long drive, but worth it!

The neat thing about Mesa Verde is that They are Indian Ruins starting from 600 AD to about 1300 AD.  From my religious standpoint, we learn from the Book Of Mormon, that the people who inhabited the Americas at that time were called Lamentites (or Native Americans) It was great to see their culture and how they lived.  They built their homes in caves and used hand and foot holds to scale up and down to the caves.   Some of the caves required climbing ladders 30 ft high and crawling through tunnels carved out of the stone
Aubrie was the only one that had fears of height while climbing the ladders.  It is a good thing that I have lost 40 pounds, otherwise this would have been a tight squeeze for me!  While at Mesa Verde, they had some Indian dancers from New Mexico they were Puebloans.

they did several dances for us.  This one was the Buffalo Dance.  They then asked if any of the audience wanted to join in the friendship dance.  I was the first one on my feet.  I defiantly wanted to do it!  Weston, Michael and Aubrie came up too.  We formed a circle and side stepped to the left, while the Indians chanted a song.  The song was easy, and kept repeating its self, so I started to sing along, LOUD, and my kids were so embarrassed! but oh well, I was having fun bonding with my fellow peubloans.  It is something I am sure my kids will always remember... The day my mom danced and chanted along with Indians!
On Sunday we had our own church and had a testimony meeting about the Book of Mormon.  It was a neat experience to be so close to the Indian ruins of that time period, knowing that some of these lamentites were descendants of those who saw Christ just 300 years
earlier.

This is called Newspaper Rock, it is in Canyon Lands  National Park, it is really neat to see that the story of hunting and other things that were important to the people at this time is preserved so we can enjoy it alsoThis is Wilson Arch, it is off of the main Highway in Moab, UT.  I never knew the diversity of Utah, I just thought there were really tall mountains there, but there are also arches, and beautiful plateaus and the most Awesome rock formations!  This is a close up of us under the Wilson arch
We nearly lost Zachary on one of the cliffs! it is a good thing there was only a 4 ft drop!  It mad a awesome visual effect! This is Dead Horse Point.  It is awesome how the Colorado River has Cut away this beautiful canyon over millions of years.  Tim said he went on a scout trip as a teen and they floated through this canyon.  As a child we were in this very spot and saw the stars falling from the night sky, or maybe they were UFOs  flying around.  Michael brought his bag pipes and played some songs.  It was awesome to hear as they echoed through out the canyon.  The other visitors were taking photos of him, and he had quite a crowd listening to him, which reminds me about when we were in Cortez Colorado,  Michael played his bagpipes at our campground; and people gave him tips, I think he earned $15.00.  Weston and Zac wanted to earn some tips too and joined Mike, Zac played the big green Rubbermaid container, and Weston played the stainless steel bowl!  They made quite a good band actually!

I honestly have to say that this was one of the best vacations we have ever had!  There wasn't any complaining (except when we had to stop at every pit stop along the way  so I could potty....
Perhaps that is why they call me Lottie Potty Body?!!)
The kids were at the right age that we were able to go on all the hikes, and the terrain was not to hard for them (now Tim and I were a little sore after hiking 20 miles but not the kids)
And this vacation was very educational.  I especially liked the visitor centers where they taught you about how the canyons and rocks were formed.  There was a sign in the visitor center to not go off the path because the soil was very fragile, Tim and Mike and Zac are Lizard hunters and occasionally would see a lizard, if they started to go off the path we would hear our  Jr Ranger (Weston) yell "Get on the path you are going to hurt the soil, get on the path!"  We decided that Weston would not make a good park ranger because he would yell at everyone get on the path! it was quite funny actually!

My Dad and Mom

Grandpa Coleman and John

Grandpa Coleman and Andrew

It was all because of My dad and Mom that I have 4 Brothers and 3 sisters! We had a great childhood. Of course we had our problems, but for the most part we were a close family, who loved each other and served one another. My Mom and Dad have set such a good example for us by serving each other, and us. I cannot count how many selfless acts of kindness they have done for me and my family. they are always there to lend a helping hand, a listening ear or a word of wisdom. The thing that I am the most thankful for is that my Dad and Mom Taught me about God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Some of the family got together in a local park and had a good visit. My brother and his family that are moving to Seattle were in town, so we thought it would be a great time to sit and visit. We sang songs, each family did a skit and Grandpa(dad) and Grandma(mom) told stories about when they were younger/ or when we were younger. It was a great night and we were sad to say our goodbyes, but the mosquito's hurried that along! so here is to a Great Dad and Mom and the wonderful posterity you have......ME! (just kiddin) ok from 8 kids we have 38 grand kids, 2 grand kids are married, and the newest addition 1 great- grand baby, not bad!

Memorial Day

Today was a Memoriable Memorial Day. Some of Tim's bothers and sister and their families went to pay tribute to their mom and Grandma. One of the things Grandma Marsh always did with the grandchildren was to have a Tea Party with them. she always had Shasta Cream Soda or Black Cherry and had a cute little silver Tea Pot with little whisky shot glasses. All the grand kids felt like this was their special time with grandma. As a tribute, Troy and Julies family brought the tea party set with Black Cherry Shasta, and all the kids had a tea party with Grandma once more. (click on the pictures to see them full screen)

Michael played about 20 minutes on his bagpipes, it was a awesome feeling to hear the bagpipes at the cemetery. There were even people who came up and took pictures of him, and pulled to the side of the road to listen to him. I know grandma would have enjoyed hearing him play, and was honored that he played for her today I am sure.

After the cemetery we had a picnic lunch in the park, the kids enjoyed hanging out with each other, like old times! Most of the grand kids are getting older, but it is great to see they still have a great time when they are together. My niece brought her jump ropes and they all enjoyed jumping "Double Dutch" Weston was really good at it and really got some air! Zachary joined in and was doing great until he didn't pull both his feet up at the same time! All in all it was a great, Memorable Day!

The Process of Laying Hardwood Floor

For the past almost 2 weeks we have been very busy ripping up carpet, floorboards, and underlayment! Tim has a friend that lays hardwood floors and is getting out of it, because business is so slow. Tim got talking to him about how we wanted to get rid of our carpet in our front room because it was so stained and the dogs unfortunately have used it as their potty several times, and now our house is starting to stink. My solution...Get rid of the dogs! but no one liked that idea (darn!) so Tim was able to get a great deal on hardwood. We decided to only do the front room area, but once that was done the kitchen looked so out of place, because they are kinda in the same area, so we decided to go through the kitchen and down the hall too! What a big job! When we pulled up the carpet we saw the damage our dogs had done, as well as the previous owners dogs. Perhaps that is why our dogs went on the carpet?! There was even several spots of mold with red punch stains and something very sticky probably soda pop? So I am glad we pulled it up. The mold could have made us sick.

Aubrie is a Great Sweeper-upper-girl!

Weston and Michael enjoy pulling staples NOT!
Zac looks mad, but he is really just exausted!
Timmy sure knows how to work hard!
Zachary was our biggest helper on this project
Tim's friend got us started laying the floor, then let us borrow his tools to finish the job. We had to put our fridge on our front porch Saturday night, and unfortunately that is where it will say for the next week until the floor cures. Monday night Tim and his friend put the sealer on, it the fumes were so bad we had to go to our local Mom and Pop hotel! Luckily my Dad and Mom live 3 miles away, we have been there ever since. each night Tim puts another coat of varnish on the floor. Tonight will be the last coat, so tomorrow we can come home and start putting our house back together again. It looks great. By putting the amount of coats of varnish on, hopefully the floor is doggie potty proof! (GRRRRR) I don't know why I never took more pictures of Aubrie and me, We both helped to the very last board, Michael and Weston helped as much as they could between work and school, Zachary and Tim were the Muscle of the project. Aubrie and I had fun making a puzzle of the wood, making sure the pattern continued. I knew all those hours of playing tetrus would pay off some day! It is cold today! BRRRR We are expecting a big snow storm I hope my crocuses survive! Have a great week...Lottie
