For the past almost 2 weeks we have been very busy ripping up carpet, floorboards, and underlayment! Tim has a friend that lays hardwood floors and is getting out of it, because business is so slow. Tim got talking to him about how we wanted to get rid of our carpet in our front room because it was so stained and the dogs unfortunately have used it as their potty several times, and now our house is starting to stink. My solution...Get rid of the dogs! but no one liked that idea (darn!) so Tim was able to get a great deal on hardwood. We decided to only do the front room area, but once that was done the kitchen looked so out of place, because they are kinda in the same area, so we decided to go through the kitchen and down the hall too! What a big job! When we pulled up the carpet we saw the damage our dogs had done, as well as the previous owners dogs. Perhaps that is why our dogs went on the carpet?! There was even several spots of mold with red punch stains and something very sticky probably soda pop? So I am glad we pulled it up. The mold could have made us sick.
Aubrie is a Great Sweeper-upper-girl!
Zachary was our biggest helper on this project
Tim's friend got us started laying the floor, then let us borrow his tools to finish the job. We had to put our fridge on our front porch Saturday night, and unfortunately that is where it will say for the next week until the floor cures. Monday night Tim and his friend put the sealer on, it the fumes were so bad we had to go to our local Mom and Pop hotel! Luckily my Dad and Mom live 3 miles away, we have been there ever since. each night Tim puts another coat of varnish on the floor. Tonight will be the last coat, so tomorrow we can come home and start putting our house back together again. It looks great. By putting the amount of coats of varnish on, hopefully the floor is doggie potty proof! (GRRRRR) I don't know why I never took more pictures of Aubrie and me, We both helped to the very last board, Michael and Weston helped as much as they could between work and school, Zachary and Tim were the Muscle of the project. Aubrie and I had fun making a puzzle of the wood, making sure the pattern continued. I knew all those hours of playing tetrus would pay off some day! It is cold today! BRRRR We are expecting a big snow storm I hope my crocuses survive! Have a great week...Lottie
