Every day we get 1 white egg and 3 brown. We have been letting them out in our gated back yard to bask in the sunshine. (They have been "Cooped up" all winter) We thought the gate was closed. Well about noon a neighbor called to tell me that there were some dogs that were trying to get my White chicken, and they had it in their mouth. I went out and looked and looked for my white chicken (Dinner) I couldn't find "Dinner" anywhere..... it is hard to find a white chicken with so much snow! it is like camouflaged!
The dogs in the neighborhood were barking like nonstop for about 30 min, and then it stopped..I figured when it stopped that was it....for "Dinner" The fight was over and the dogs got "Dinner" Literally!
I felt so sad all day. I walked up and down the street hoping to find my"chicken dinner", but couldn't find her, great! I thought,1 less egg a day for us:) When I called Dad, I said to him, well it looks like we won't be eating "Dinner"....he was sad too, cause he really likes "Dinner"! Anyway last night about 5pm "Dinner" showed up on our porch. She was so glad to see us that she ran right into our house!...We felt like she deserves a new name, so we are now calling her "Lucky Clucky" So here is the interesting part! This chicken has never seen the front side of our house! she has never been away from home....HOW did she find our home after being chased off by the dogs? Like I said before.....I looked for over a half hour for her, with no luck...So she really is a lucky clucky! (the funny thing is...The other chickens would not come out of their coop all day yesterday...They were traumatized by the squawking that the white chicken was making....I bet she w as saying "The sky is falling...The sky is falling!" Indecently they will not come out of their coop today either! so perhaps we have a bunch of "Chickens" like literally Chickens you know when someone dares you to do something and you won't do it, and they call you "chicken" yeah that's the kind of chickens we have now! ha ha
While writing my weelky letter to my son Weston, who is serving a mission in Mexico about this incedent these thoughts came to me...Lets call it the"Parable of Lucky Clucky!"The dogs in the neighborhood were barking like nonstop for about 30 min, and then it stopped..I figured when it stopped that was it....for "Dinner" The fight was over and the dogs got "Dinner" Literally!

You know We are all "Lucky Clucky's!" Because sometimes we are out basking in the sunlight and it is so easy to wander off the path. Sometimes we are fine and save like the 3 brown chickens, but once in a while we go down a wrong path (like the gravel driveway!) sometimes the path is hard and rocky, but for some reason we keep going down that path instead of turning around and returning to the safety of the"coop" where we know we are safe and looked after.
Sometimes while we are heading out and about minding our own business, enjoying the freedom from the coop, we come across wild dogs, who are hungry. They try to make their ways tempting...."Follow us...We can have a great feast" they say...Leading you along and all the while you do not sense the danger. Then the next thing you know you are in their mouth and they have led you down the path that leads to death...perhaps spiritual death, or death its self...The Wild dogs tell you to rest your head in their mouth and they will carry you to their home safely, at first you do not feel the clenching of the Jaws, it is ever so soft, but then gradually the bite becomes stronger and before too long you are caught in the grasp of the Jaws, you cannot escape! You are far from the flock! you do not notice that you are so far away... you call out for help, but you have wandered away and they cannot hear your squawking! The master is calling for you, He wants you to come home. He searches for you...He does not give up on you! The snow is camouflaging you and those who are trying to help you cannot see you...the pressure from the jaws is almost more than you can bear! you do not know where to turn, except to God, and hope that there is still enough mercy for you to be saved from the jaws of hell! The Jaws are eased just enough for your escape! you run like a mad chicken with his head cut off trying to find the flock! You are lost, you do not know where you are, or how to return, You feel like the sky is falling! You drop to your knees and beg for help... but God has not forsaken you, and he knows the road will be hard back to the coop, but he Walks with you, sometimes even carrying you when you are to weak to go on.
Then after hours of wandering you see it! the masters home! you have never seen it before from the front! but instinct tells you that you are home! You peck on the door, and ask to come in and return to the flock, the master comes home and see's you on his porch, overjoyed! because you have come home! What was lost, is now found, and what joy fills the master and the chicken! the Chicken runs into the house of the master and knows that while under the masters care she will be protected, cared for and safe from the wild dogs....As long as she chooses to stay in the parameters the master has set. Not going beyond the gate, no matter how tempting the grass looks on the other side. All the master asks in return is a egg from the hen every day. This chicken really is a lucky clucky, for there are some who never find their way back to the master, and are left to wander in the Jaws of Hell. Filling Dog's tummy with a nice chicken dinner! Just like the Master in this story, Our Master, Christ wants us to come unto him, and not wander from the flock. If we obey his words and live his ways, we will be safe from Satan's power (the Wild Dogs). It is not always easy to stay in the flock...Sometimes we are tempted to go beyond the gate. But there is safety from behind the fence and the lord loves us so much and wants to help us to stay safe, by following his rules and listening to the master we are protected from the wild dogs Jaws..or Satan's Grasp!
How lucky we are that we have a master who loves us so much! How thankful I am for the Grace of God! for the gospel in my life, for the knowledge that we are so loved and we are never alone, that God is always there to help us along our journey. Yes it will be hard, but in the end, when we peck on the pearly gates and see our master again what joy will fill our little chicken breasts and who knows we might even lay a egg! (a golden egg that is!).....
